Mystery filming of period drama at Birkenhead Town Hall has left people guessing

Mystery filming was spotted at Birkenhead Town Hall today - and it's left people guessing as to what the production might be.

Photos taken by Adam Courtney show the Town Hall in Hamilton Square used as a backdrop to what appears to be the filming of a period drama.

As well as the Town Hall, filming was also said to be taking place on nearby Duncan Street.

Actors in smartly dressed costumes could be seen on set, along with a classic car surrounded by lighting crews.

After Adam posted his photos on a local Facebook community group, people put forward their own suggestions as to what was being filmed.

Peaky Blinders was one suggestion but another speculated the filming was actually for The Icpress File.

The ITV production is based on Len Deighton’s iconic spy thriller, The Ipcress File, having previously been adapted into a film starring national treasure Michael Caine.

Filming for the new six part series has already taken place in several locations in Liverpool city centre including Exchange Street, Lime Street Station and the Philharmonic Pub.

There is no official confirmation on the filming as of yet and it's also rumoured that filming of Peaky Blinders will again be taking place in Liverpool this week.
