Mystery body found in River Forth identified as missing Stirling University student

Police have discovered the identity of a man whose body was found in the River Forth after appealing for help to solve the mystery.

Rodwhan Ali Al Monstir was last seen at an address in Bridgehaugh Road, Stirling, on July 29.

A police appeal to find the 41-year-old was released on August 17 with officers describing his disappearance as "completely out of character".

Cops have now confirmed that a body found near Culross, Fife, on August 5 is that of the missing Stirling University student, who is originally from Libya.

Investigators yesterday released a picture of a t-shirt in a bid to help identify the mystery body after drawing a blank while checking outstanding missing person cases.

They have now confirmed the man’s identity and are currently treating his death as “unexplained”.

A force spokesperson said: “ Police Scotland can now confirm that the body of the man found in the Firth of Forth off Preston Island on 5 August, 2020, has been identified as that of 41-year-old Rodwhan Ali Al Montsir from Stirling.

“The death is being treated as unexplained pending a post mortem examination and the Procurator Fiscal has been informed.”
