This is an adult Wahlberg's eagle, Aquila wahlbergi. The features that distinguish this species from other African Aquila eagles include;
- Small size
- Unbarred tail
- Pale scapulars and upper wing coverts
- Small nuchal crest
- Cere reaches the front of the eye, not the middle (as in Tawny Eagle, Aquila rapax) or back (as in Steppe Eagle, Aquila nipalensis)
