This is a laughing dove, Streptopelia senegalensis. This species has an extremely large range, extending from subsaharan tropics into the Middle East and reaching into many parts of southern Asia and India. This small bird is also found in a small area in and around Perth and Fremantle in the state of of Western Australia. It is not known with certainty how this species came to be in Australia.

You are invited to review all of the daily mystery birds by going to their dedicated graphic index page.

If you have bird images, video or mp3 files that you'd like to share with a large and (mostly) appreciative audience, feel free to email them to me for consideration.
