Question: This lovely bird gets its name from one of its life history traits. Can you name this bird and tell me how it got its name?

Response: This is an adult European goldfinch, Carduelis carduelis. This bird's preferred food are teasel and thistle seeds. It's scientific name, Carduelis comes from the Latin name, Carduus, the genus name for thistles.

If you have bird images, video or mp3 files that you'd like to share with a large and appreciate audience, feel free to email them to me for consideration.
