Mystery bird: Emerald-spotted wood-dove, Turtur chalcospilos

Emerald-spotted wood-dove, Turtur chalcospilos, also known as the emerald-spotted dove and the green-spotted wood-dove, photographed at Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania, Africa.

Nikon D2X, 200-400 lens at 400 mm. ISO 160 f/6.3, 1/125 sec

This is an adult Emerald-spotted wood-dove, Turtur chalcospilos. Males and females look alike (so your guess as to this bird's gender is as good as mine), whilst immature birds can be distinguished by their duller plumage.

You are invited to review all of the daily mystery birds by going to their dedicated graphic index page.

If you have bird images, video or mp3 files that you'd like to share with a large and (mostly) appreciative audience, feel free to email them to me for consideration.
