Mystery as ribbons appear on Trent Bridge in Nottingham

Red and white ribbons have been placed along the length of Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The pieces of fabric, stretching down London Road over the River Trent in West Bridgford, as well as through the Meadows, were spotted yesterday (Thursday, January 6).

Placed just a minute's walk away from the City Ground, the ribbons appear ahead of Nottingham Forest's FA Cup tie with Arsenal.

The home side return to action against the Gunners on Sunday after Monday's clash at Barnsley was postponed due to injuries and covid within the squad.

Sunday's visitors will be wearing a one-off white kit for the game, as part of an initiative to combat youth knife crime in London.

Called No More Red, the campaign will see the kit not go on sale, but be given to community organisations.

The last time the two sides met in the cup, currently held by Leicester City, was also in the third round in 2018, with Forest running out 4-2 winners.

When approached about the ribbons, both Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council said it was nothing to do with them.

Nottingham Forest have been approached for comment.
