Mystery as pictures show armed police escorting handcuffed man into A&E at Wythenshawe hospital

Mystery surrounds images of a handcuffed man being escorted by armed police to Wythenshawe Hospital.

Pictures emerged of a man surrounded by police with guns entering the accident and emergency unit at around 2.15pm on Monday.

The man photographed was wearing a yellow and green prison suit, and was cuffed to another man in uniform.

A witness who saw man arrive said the main approach to A&E was closed to other traffic as the police escort arrived.

The woman, 41, who was visiting Wythenshawe Hospital at the time, said: "It was quite an eerie sight when all the police cars arrived.

"There were about five police cars plus about two unmarked police vehicles. The road to the main entrance of the new A&E was closed to all other cars.

"Then there were all these police officers with guns by the main entrance.

"They took him straight through to the new A&E. He didn't go to the main desk, he went straight into a back room.

"The police looked like airport police. It was quite scary. No one told us who he was but he looked like a prisoner."

Greater Manchester Police told the M.E.N. that the incident was a 'planned operation' and that they would not be releasing any further details.
