Mystery as people seen inside 'non-essential' Edinburgh Louis Vuitton store

An Edinburgh man says he's been left baffled after seeing people inside a Louis Vuitton store despite strict rules about non-essential retailers.

Ian Butler stopped to take photos after spotting a small gathering of people inside the shop on Multrees Walk on Saturday afternoon.

Images show four people chatting in face masks standing inside the store close to the till.

Ian said: "It's ridiculous. I wonder what the small businesses think about this. A lot of businesses are closed and won't survive this."

He added: "Even Click and Collect services don't happen on the premises. Some places you have to collect from a hatch, or staff give you what you have ordered.

"Even then I don't see how this is essential. Especially given Nicola Sturgeon's statement yesterday, I think this should be in the public domain for people to see."

Louis Vuitton say those inside the store are employees and not clients, and they remain closed to the public.

They add: "Per Scottish rules and regulations, stores are permitted to operate from behind closed doors to facilitate business needs not possible to undertake from home. I can confirm we are not operating any click-and-collect services and no clients are allowed in store.

"All Covid safety guidelines are adhered to, with the health and safety of our employees of the utmost importance."

The First Minister announced on Tuesday that the list of essential retailers allowed to operate will expand from April 5, while Click and Collect services will return for non essential shops.
