Mystery as 'massive explosion' heard across Liverpool

A mystery "massive explosion" has been heard across Liverpool this morning.

At this stage Merseyside Police say they are not aware of any call-outs relating to the big bang that woke residents in Bootle, Anfield and Orrell Park.

Lis Lambertsen from Orrell Park heard the "load bang" around 9.10am today.

She said: "I heard it all the way out here in Orrell Park - I actually thought my neighbour had slammed her door or something - windows rattled a bit. Very weird that I could hear it out here!"

People also took to Twitter to express their shock at what they heard.

@Jophes86 tweeted: "Did anyone hear that massive explosion then in Bootle?"

@CraftingSpoonie contacted the ECHO on Twitter to say: "Any idea what that loud noise (?explosion?) was around Clubmoor and Anfield (I think) apparently ground shook and everything - approximately 9:10am today."

Big bang theories include that the source of the noise was on the docks.

Twitter user @EFCLynne said: Not sure where it’s happened. Sounded near the docks."

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We are not aware of any ongoing incidents related to this."
