People living in Prenton were left wondering about mysterious noises in the night, after hearing "three loud bangs" which woke them up.
Residents reported hearing the loud bangs in the early hours of Friday.
While it's not clear where in Prenton, Wirral, these noises were heard, a number of residents reported hearing them overnight.
A resident wrote in a community Facebook page: "Anyone else hear three/four loud bangs just now at 1:43 in morning in Prenton? Didn’t sound like fireworks, sounded more like gun shots."
One resident also said they could hear the noises as far as Woodchurch, while another said: "It woke me up and I thought the same."
Other neighbours said they thought the loud noises may have been fire works set off while people were sleeping, or a car backfiring.

They wrote: "[It] wasn't a gún. [It] was [someone] letting off fireworks. They where pretty big, I was going the toilet at [my] mum's and saw [it] out the window."
