Mysterious Xbox tweet hints at exclusive Game of Thrones video game project

A Game of Thrones video game could be on the cards, after Xbox released mysterious teaser videos on its official Twitter and Facebook accounts.

The Twitter video features flames, dragon skin, and the corner of a Targaryen sigil, while the Facebook video shows an icy blizzard and and image of the Night King's chest plate symbol.

Both videos are captioned "And now your wait begins" - a reference to the oath spoken by members of the Night's Watch in Game of Thrones, which begins: "Night gathers, and now my watch begins."

The teasers have prompted feverish speculation that Xbox may have teamed up with HBO to develop a video game based on the Game of Thrones books and TV series.

Major Game Of Thrones blunder as STARBUCKS cup makes it into a scene

Despite the astronomical success of Game of Thrones, there still hasn't been a proper AAA video game adaptation for fans to sink their teeth into.

Telltale Games released an episodic graphic adventure video game based on the series in 2014, and there have been a few mobile games and mods.

But what fans really want is an open world or strategy game that allows them to explore Westeros and fight battles as a member of their favourite house.

It's still unclear whether this is what Xbox is hinting at with its social media posts.

What Game of Thrones' terrifying Night King actually looks like - and fans think he's hot

Microsoft has been investing heavily in Xbox exclusives recently, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the company has decided to dish out for the Game of Thrones license.

However, the timing seems odd, as there are only two episodes of the final season of Game of Thrones left, and a game is unlikely to be ready for release any time soon.

Some people think it's just a tease for a limited edition Xbox One console, featuring Game of Thrones imagery on the box and the controller.

That would certainly be a lot less exciting, but until Microsoft gives us a bit more information, we'll have to bear the suspense.
