Mysterious loud bang causes homes to 'shake'

A mystery 'loud bang' was heard across parts of Merseyside with people claiming they felt their homes shake.

People living in Merseyside were startled and confused by the noise at around 7.20pm.

The noise was heard in Bootle, Aintree, Walton, Orrel Park and Litherland.

People took to a local Facebook group to ask if other people heard the explosion.

A post in the group said: "Did anyone else hear that real loud bang? Knowsley Road area?

"I’m by the Post Office on Knowsley Road and it sounded quite close."

One woman replied: "Aye, the house shook. I'm by Knowsley Road. Can hear sirens Seaforth way."

Another added: "Yeah we jumped out of our skin... we are off Peel Road (Bootle)."

It is unclear at this point what caused the loud bang.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said it is not responding to any incidents in the area.

People asked if the bang could be a noise from the docks, but one woman who lives close by said: "It was a loud bang and dull thud, the house shook. Definitely not normal dock noise."

Another person who lives near the docks agreed and said: "Just off Marsh Lane and heard it - my dog started barking! I’m used to all the dock noises and that was definitely a new one!"
