Residents in Irvine have been left baffled by reported sightings of mysterious lights in the skies above the town last night.
Witnesses have shared stories online about a bright trail of unidentified objects which were spotted from the town centre, Girdle Toll, Dreghorn and Springside at around 9pm.
One onlooker posted on social media claiming the strange sight of around 12 perfectly aligned lights resembled a missile. Others were sure it was a shooting star or meteor shower.
Similar sightings were made in various parts of Ireland which weather experts believe to be a fireball of space debris burning as it enters the earth's atmosphere.
