Mysterious East Lothian sea creature baffles locals after washing up on beach

An East Lothian local has shared images of a mysterious sea creature that washed up on the shores of Gullane beach in East Lothian - sparking debate as to what the weird animal is.

Caroline Lennon, who found the squishy... thing(?) told Edinburgh Live : "I’ve found a few things on the tide line over the years but never found one of those before!".

The creature appears to look a bit like a deflated football with a bright blue edge.

"Is the blue bit shell?" asked one member of the local Facebook group Caroline originally shared the images on.

"No, it's squashy like a jellyfish but maybe a bit spongier" she answered. Yup, we're feeling a bit unsettled too.

The 'kinda gross but kinda cool' animal was also described as having tentacles tucked in under itself, which was the clue one local needed to correctly identify the mysterious creature.

The answer? Don't panic it's not an alien - it's a sea anemone that's turned itself inside out or has flipped over.

One Facebook user commented "Delicious when pan-fried!" but we think we'll leave it.
