MySpace deletes 29,000 sex offenders while Facebook nabs YouTube's finance chief

MySpace has said it has detected and deleted 29,000 convicted sex offenders on its service, more than four times the figure it had initially reported.

The figure is considerably higher than the 7,000 sex offenders it had identified in May.

MySpace chief security officer Hemanshu Nigam announced: "We're pleased that we've successfully identified and removed registered sex offenders from our site and hope that other social networking sites follow our lead."

CNN-YouTube debate breaks record

The CNN-YouTube debate apparently pulled in the highest viewership for a debate among adults aged 18 to 34 in cable news history.

The two-hour debate, featuring the likes of Presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, saw 39 questions selected to be asked from 3,000 video clips posted.

The debate averaged 2.6m viewers, says Reuters based on Nielsen Media Research figures, making it the second-most-watched debate so far this season.

Apparently 407,000 viewers from the 18 to 34 year old demographic watched - topping the previous record of 368,000.

Facebook hires YouTube finance chief

Facebook has hired former YouTube chief financial officer Gideon Yu, fuelling speculation the website is heading for an IPO.

Yu, who replaces Michael Sheridan, was the CFO of YouTube last September just before Google snapped it up for $1.65bn.

Of course this goes against the grain of Henry Blodget's theory, commenting on an interview given to The Deal.com by Peter Thiel, a Facebook investor and director.

He reckons Facebook is putting a pricetag on itself of $7bn to $10bn.
