New Eagles linebacker Myles Jack didn’t know what his football future held for him when he went deep into the offseason unsigned.
The former second-round selection by the Jaguars had been staying in shape, working out and waiting for a phone call after being released by the Steelers in March. Eagles GM Howie Roseman called Jack last weekend, flew him in for a workout and on Sunday, he signed a contract with Philadelphia to bolster the team’s linebacker depth.
But if Jack didn’t latch on with a team, he wasn’t sure he would continue playing football. In fact, he was considering trade school to keep himself busy in his post-playing days.
“I’m a hustler so I feel like I can do anything,” Jack told NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I like to work. I just couldn’t sit at home. I’ve been blessed to make a lot of money so I could just retire and sit at the house but I’m too bored. My mind is too much. I just want to be innovate. I don’t know, if a zombie apocalypse happens, I want to be able to like build something or like fix something. You know what I mean?”
Needless to say, Jack is excited to be a part of the Eagles.
“One week, you’re sitting at home, the next week you’re with a Super Bowl contender. It’s a blessing.”
Jack has spent seven seasons in the NFL, six with the Jaguars and one with the Steelers. In 103 career games, he has recorded 617 combined tackles, 6.5 sacks and three interceptions.
