Mykonos and Halkidiki to impose tougher restrictions on holidaymakers

As coronavirus cases in Greece continue to climb, Greek authorities on the party island of Mykonos and the northern resort region of Halkidiki have decided to impose extra restrictions for holidaymakers.

From this Friday, August 21, through to the end of the month, all live parties, religious processions and open-air markets will be banned in the regions.

The move comes after authorities traced back the spike in Covid cases to those areas.

The Civil Protection Authority added that both public and private gatherings will be limited to a maximum of nine people.

There will also be a maximum of four people allowed per table at restaurants, or six people per table in cases of immediate family members.

Masks are mandatory in all indoor and outdoor areas on Mykonos and throughout Halkidiki province.

As British tourists have had trips to Spain and France cancelled, many have been heading to Greece instead as it currently doesn’t require Brits to quarantine on return to the UK.

However, after France was added to the UK’s quarantine list at the weekend, many are speculating that Greece and Croatia could be next.
