Myenergi plugs in to the Mariners as new shirt sponsor and key community partner

Rapidly growing renewable technology specialist Myenergi will be the new business powering Grimsby Town on as they return to the English Football League.

The thriving local company behind the market-leading Zappi electric vehicle charger is putting its name on the Mariners’ shirts, securing a three year deal with the club.

It takes over from Young’s Seafood, shirt sponsor for the past 18 years, with chair Jason Stockwood confirming the undisclosed agreement is an upgrade on what came before.

The partnership will also extend beyond helping finance the club, with community projects and plans to spark a cultural shift, raising career aspirations for those in the town, also key elements.

Tech entrepreneur Mr Stockwood, who together with Andrew Pettit bought the club from John Fenty as the Mariners were relegated just over a year ago, said: “It’s a real pleasure to welcome Myenergi as the official club shirt sponsor of Grimsby Town FC. The agreement is an important step forward in the club’s bright future, and we’re delighted that this will be with such a progressive local business.

“The Myenergi team are Grimsby locals, true Mariners fans, and see the club as a central part of the community.”

The announcement has been trailed with ‘Europe’s Green Town’ banners appearing across the borough, a nod to the mid-Nineties Europe’s Food Town support for the club.

Launched in 2016, Myenergi is innovating in the microgeneration sector, supporting homeowners and businesses to go green - on a global scale.

From a background in solar, it has gone from a start-up to a state-of-the-art Stallingborough headquarters, where sales are expected to hit the £50 million mark soon, up from £17 million in 12 months. It is making major strides in Germany, Australia and Ireland, as well as the UK market, with a workforce set to double from 350 to 700 in the near term.

Already a backer of Cleethorpes Town and emerging electric vehicle racing and rallying, those pursuits will continue.

Jordan Brompton, co-founder and chief marketing officer, was at the London Stadium to see the Mariners secure a return to League Two at the first time of asking. The company also took out pitch-side advertising hoarding space at Sunday’s play-off final.

She said: “When the opportunity came up to sponsor Grimsby Town FC, we jumped at the chance. The club is a massive part of the local community, and while having a new sponsor is a big change after 18 years, we hope we can do the fans justice.

“We want to celebrate the town’s central role in the renewable energy revolution. As proud Grimbarians and passionate Mariners fans, we’re excited to kick-off the new partnership and look forward to seeing the Myenergi logo emblazoned across the Grimsby Town FC kit next season.”

Work has just started on a new 60,000 sq ft manufacturing facility at Pioneer Business Park, with the range of products - led by the eco-smart charger - currently being assembled on the leased former Wickes outlet on Alexandra Retail Park.
