We’re just a few weeks away from the launch of NBA 2K26, with the reveal of The City coming during the week of August 25th. This is around the time when Early Access begins for 2K26 (August 29th), and each year, the City/Park unveiling is arguably the most anticipated thing, hence the reason why it’s revealed so late.
Since its inception in 2K14, the Park has become a major staple in the NBA 2K series, bringing in tons of players to play streetball games online every year. The creation of The City has drawn criticism since 2K21 due to the fact that it’s normally been too big to navigate.
Another aspect of The City that has drawn some criticism is the lack of a MyCOURT, which remained present in the old gen versions of the game. Instead, players had to get their practice hoops in by going to the Gatorade Facility, which lacks the homey feel and personal touch that MyCOURT provided.
But, in NBA 2K25, they finally decided to bring back the MyCOURT. However, there was a head-scratching decision made on its return. You were able to change your wall mural, but you couldn’t change your court floor, net, rim, or backboard like in the past. Just the wall mural.
Although it was welcoming that MCs were back, the lack of customization options was bizarre. So, for NBA 2K26, I propose the devs give us the full MyCOURT experience that we all know and love. Let us especially change floors, which I’d argue are more important than the wall murals since you see the floor a lot more (although the murals are awesome too).
Furthermore, customizing the experience should be even more in-depth, especially on current-gen platforms. Let us upload our own images for the court floor, like you can in MyNBA. That would be very cool and a perfect way to express yourself.
Along those lines, in regards to the floor, let us customize the colors and add smaller logos in the mid-range area. Essentially, similar customization options of MyNBA and those of NBA Live 19. Also, we should be able to choose how our hoop foundation looks as well.
I absolutely love the NBA-style foundation for the hoops in 2K25’s MyCOURTs, but it would be fun to switch it up. Switch to a poll-like foundation, like on street courts, or back to the classic high school/college style where the hoop is hanging down from the ceiling.
Last but not least, I think it would be amazing if we had the option to use chain nets for our MyCOURTs. Certainly, it might feel initially awkward in an indoor setting, but it would still be cool nonetheless. Chain nets have that awesome novelty feeling, like when you watch college baseball and players are using metal bats. Yes, we love our nylon nets and wooden bats a lot, but chain nets and metal bats are a fun change of pace.
So with The City getting another overhaul and focusing on a more traditional setting away from the robots and pirate ships, here’s hoping there’s a fresh overhaul of the MyCOURT, too. It’s great that they’re back (though they should’ve never gotten rid of them), but now it’s time to really step up the customization and let us make our MyCOURTs truly feel like a virtual basketball home in NBA 2K26.
