Myanmarese national lynched near Aizawl

AIZAWL: A Myanmarese national, identified only as Sangtea, was reportedly lynched by a mob at Nghalchawm village, about 51km west of Aizawl city on Monday, police reports reaching here on Tuesday said. He was in his forties.

The reports said village leaders of Nghalchawm informed Sairang police station that Sangtea attacked two persons belonging to the village - Lalbiaknia and Lalrinnunga - both in their twenties with a machete near river Tlawng around 2pm on Monday.

While Lalbiaknia was grievously injured in the head, Lalrinnunga was hit in the chest. Lalrinnunga is being treated at Sairang primary health centre (PHC), while Lalbiaknia was referred to the civil hospital in Aizawl because of the seriousness of his injury.

Sangtea was caught at the Young Mizo Association (YMA) hall in Nghalchawm village by local leaders and the police informed. But when the police arrived, they found Sangtea already dead. "He died from the beatings," said C Lalruaia, superintendent of police, Aizawl district.

Sources said Sangtea is a repeat offender as he had clubbed two persons - Lalkaia and Lalramlawma - with a piece of firewood in 2016 at Sihhmui village.
