NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: Immigration authorities will send back 29 Myanmar nationals found in a rubber plantation after being abandoned on Monday by the driver supposedly taking them to jobs in Malaysia.
Cha-uat police chief Pol Col Thamanoon Faiju said they had been charged with illegally entering the country and then handed over to the provincial immigration office. They were awaiting deportation to Myanmar.
A rubber farmer found the 29 in a plantation in Cha-uat district on Monday afternoon and alerted police.
They told questioners they were picked up by an agent in Ranong and were heading to work in Malaysia.
The driver ordered them to stay in the plantation and wait after passing several checkpoints along the way.
He had promised to return and continue taking them on their journey to the Malaysian border, but he did not do so, according to Pol Col Thamanoon. None of them had proper documents.
