Myanmar's military coup: Pro-democracy protests continue despite bloody crackdown

THE DEBATE © FRANCE 24

Myanmar is reeling after its bloodiest day yet in the wake of last month's military coup. But what will this mean going forward for the people who are still taking to the streets to call for the reinstatement of civilian rule?

At least 18 people were killed on Sunday, the bloodiest day yet. A day later, the people are still protesting. They are resisting in spite of the fact that the army is willing to fire live bullets at them in the capital city of Yangon.

Meanwhile, de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was arrested by the military on February 1, appeared in court again via video link and was hit with fresh charges. She has not been seen publicly since her arrest.

Produced by Charles Wente, Juliette Laurain and Imen Mellaz.
