TRANG: The Myanmar man caught for brutally killing his Thai wife whose body was found at a rubber plantation in Trang confessed he murdered her in a fit of jealousy as she tried to break up with him to live with her former husband.

The suspect, named only as “Mr O’’, and his Myanmar friend, identified as Sor or Min-o, were on Thursday taken for a crime re-enactment in Kantang district, Trang. The duo were caught separately on charges of colluding in the murder and concealing the body, said police.

Mr O was arrested in southern Chumphon province on Wednesday night, while Mr Min-o was caught at workers’ living quarters in Kantang district of Trang.

Wiliintra Philapan, 33, wife of Mr O, was found dead at a rubber plantation in Trang's Kantang district on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Mr O had phoned his father-in-law and apologised for what he had done to her, and told him where to “pick up” his daughter.

Police believe she had been dead at least two days before her body was discovered.

During the intense interrogation, Mr O confessed he had killed his wife by using a cord to strangle her in their bed. He then wrapped her body with a blanket.

The suspect said he murdered her in a jealous rage after learning that she was going to break up with him and return to live with her ex-husband, with whom they had two children. He had had a heated quarrel with her before the murder.

After killing her, he had persuaded the Myanmar friend to drink a kratom cocktail at his house. When Mr Min-o arrived, he asked his friend to help put the corpse in a bin and threw it at a rubber plantation in Kantang district, where the body was later found.

Earlier, there were reports that the woman had a severe knife wound to her throat. However, the suspect confessed to strangling her with a cord.

After the crime re-enactment, police took the two suspects to Trang provincial court for detention.
