'My wife wants me to pay more for bills but signed up to a pricey gym - it's unfair'

No matter how you split costs in a relationship, most would agree it is important to find a fair arrangement.

Whether you divide everything 50/50 or pay according to what you earn, it doesn't matter - so long as you're both on the same page.

Unfortunately, one couple has been left at odds as they don't see eye to eye over their finances.

The pair recently changed the way they cover their bills, as one of the duo is keen to go to university. As such, her supportive partner agreed to pay more toward their bills to help 'pick up the slack', when she can no longer afford to pay as much as she does now.

So far, so good. But trouble arose when the wife signed up to an expensive gym.

"Where things get dicey for me is that she has now decided to join a fairly expensive gym and will be paying for the membership while she is in school, and she still is expecting me to help her pay for he (sic) share of bills," her partner explained in a post to Reddit.

As such, the romantic was keen to ask social media users if they thought it was a reasonable request.

Sharing some insight into the couple's finance in an update, the partner added: "She has not stopped working altogether. She has been working 5 days a week, and will be cutting down to 3 days a week, and eventually will probably go down to 1 day a week due to the demands of the school program."

In response, commenters were quick to side with the post's author.

One person thought: "If she wants to go back to school, she needs to tighten her belt. You are presumably tightening your belt as well to pick up the extra bills."

Another added: "If she can't afford the gym and whatever her share of the bills will be when she goes back to school, she needs to find a cheaper gym or learn how to work youtube."
