'My wife picked out perfect names for our twins - then I learnt their cheesy meaning'

Naming a new baby is always a tricky task, with parents around the world struggling to agree on something they both like.

While some parents choose to name their children in honour of other family members or loved ones, others prefer to pick out original names that ensure their kids will always be unique.

One dad-to-be has told how easy it was for he and his wife to pick out baby names for the twin girls they'll be expecting - until he found out the meaning behind the names.

The unnamed dad took to Reddit to tell of his joy when he and his wife found out they were expecting twins.

The 25-year-old said he and Kaylie (his wife) are "over the moon" to be having two babies, and have spent lots of time getting ready for the girls, preparing the nursery and talking about what to name them.

He wrote: "Kaylie suggested the names Bella and Sara, and even though they’re pretty common ones I do like them."

After a brief discussion, the pair agreed on the cute names and sidestepped an argument that trips up many expectant parents.

However, when his wife's friend popped over a few days later, she shed a little bit of light on why her friend Kaylie wanted those names for her twin girls - and he wasn't happy about it at all.

He said the friend "burst out laughing" when she heard the names, leaving Kaylie looking "embarrassed."

When he asked what was going on, Kaylie's friend explained the mum-to-be had taken her inspiration from a unicorn card game the pair had played when they were kids.

She said one of the unicorns in the game was called BellaSara.

The dad-to-be said he was "in shock" after the friend left the house and went home.

He wrote: "[I]told my wife under no circumstances were we naming the girls that anymore because it’s beyond cheesy and quite honestly ridiculous at this point."

However he said Kaylie hit back and told him no one knew about the game so it would be silly to ditch the names for that reason.

The dad asked others for their opinions on the argument, wanting to know if he was being unreasonable.

Most people agreed with Kaylie that it didn't matter where the names came from because hardly anyone would ever understand the very specific reference.

One person wrote: "Bella and Sara are perfectly normal names, no one would even guess that they're from a card game."

Another agreed and said: "Unless you played the game, knew someone that did or had a child that did, it wouldn't be an automatic connection."
