My Smoky Bacon Crisp Obsession is the sequel to Half my Facebook Friends are Ferrets. It is about a boy called Josh Walker who has an obsession with ferrets. He has just started sixth form, and is finding it hard to cope under the pressure. He makes a list of things he needs to do in the year: these are commence upper-body-related action with Becky (his girlfriend), get a band together (he plays the guitar and enjoys rock music), get a tattoo, do his A levels and stop making lame lists.
He makes a new friend called Lloyd, who his sister, Maddie, takes a liking to. His friend Davey starts having anxiety issues, and Peter's parents are arguing. He also finds he is not old enough to have a tattoo, and the only thing Becky wants to talk about is how she hates her breasts because they are so big. He also finds his mum has a secret, and he self diagnoses himself as having an obsession with smoky bacon crisps. It ends up all building up to create the mess of Josh's life.
This book is written like a diary, from Josh's view. I read this book without reading the first one, though I picked up on the characters quickly and it seems I didn't miss out on much. I went into this book thinking it would be quite funny, however it was not. At first nothing happened and when the plot started getting interesting I was so bored of it I just wanted to finish it and get it over with. There is not much character development, even with the new characters, and no humor at all. I mainly cringed at it. Mainly though I just didn't find the book interesting, and it was written in a style that was for children who are about 11 years old, but contained topics meant for teen readers. I would give this book 1 out of 5 and tell everyone not the waste their money.
