'My sister's convinced I'm giving my baby a 'vegan' name - I don't know what that is'

Choosing the perfect baby name can feel both exciting and intimidating all at once.

And while some parents will share their baby's name during pregnancy - perhaps to reduce the risk of someone else picking dibs on it - others like to keep it a secret till the birth to avoid unwanted feedback.

However, this doesn't stop people from speculating what the name could be, as one mum found...

In a post on Reddit, one mum, who is 37 weeks pregnant, has said that she isn't announcing her baby's name until the birth.

"My family came over for dinner yesterday and the topic turned to baby names," the woman said, "and my sister started interrogating me trying to get me to tell her the name or give her clues."

"Eventually she gave up exclaiming 'eurg, I bet it's going to be some sort of vegan name!'"

The mum was baffled, having not heard of anyone referring to a name like this before, and took to Reddit to ask users what they would consider being "vegan."

Reddit users were quick to share their vegan baby names, with one of the most popular suggestions being 'Lentil.'

One person said: "I was saying to my boyfriend I’ve never quite liked the name Yentl because it makes me think of Lentil and actually I think Lentil sounds nicer to say."

Another user had other plans for the name, writing: "Okay but now I want to name a cat Lentil! What a perfect name for a brown tabby."

"When I was pregnant we called our unborn baby Len as he was the size of a lentil when I found out I was pregnant," said a third. "Seriously considered Len as his real name, but veered away in the end."

'River' was another suggestion, as one person revealed: "Vegetarian and my top pick for my son's name was River. (Not what we ended up going with but still funny)."

Another said: "Ha… My son is named River and I’m vegan. River is one of the most recommended names in my vegan parenting group. I guess some stereotypes really do fit! Haha."

Someone else said: "Kale feels like the obvious choice here, and not so terrible compared to some of what I’ve seen."

"Something with crunchy hippy vibes- so like Meadow, Sage, Sky, etc," commented one person, and another added: "Naturey proper nouns used as names: bear, sky, sage, river etc."
