'My seamstress altered my wedding dress without asking - she said it looked better'

Many women dream about their wedding day as little girls, from the venue to their dress.

So what would you do if your seamstress ruined your dream gown?

This is what happened to one woman, from the US, who claims her seamstress amended her gown without even consulting her, leaving her in tears.

Niki Weinstock shared her story on her TikTok account @niki_weinstock, where she shared a picture of an ill-fitting gown that supposedly looked nothing like what she'd asked for.

In a second clip, she then went on to detail everything that was wrong with it - adding that the seamstress also cut off her train without even asking.

"What I wanted to do was add sleeves, but I couldn’t do it with the designer because my mum got it from a sample sale and it was out of the country," she explained.

"So the designer gave me a tonne of material to be able to add a sleeve.

"There wasn’t a shoulder on the dress and you need that for a sleeve, so when I went to the seamstress and told her that, she said she’d be able to create a sheer sleeve for me and would fill in the shoulder with a little bit of appliqué."

However, the sleeve wasn't sheer as she'd requested, it was big and puffy.

Niki also confirmed she hadn't just gone to a cheap seamstress but had chosen someone who had been recommended to her by everyone in her home town.

She later claimed the seamstress "threatened to sue me if I didn’t pay the 300$ for the 'work she did,'" despite it not being what she wanted.

Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 11,000 likes and hundreds of comments from people who were stunned at the seamstress's audacity.

"That's so messed up!! The final product is absolutely gorgeous though!!!!" said one person.

While another added: "Absolutely not she doesn't get to keep fabric you paid for. She scammed you. A seamstress DOES NOT DO anything but what the client wants."

A third added: "Girl, kudos to making it home before crying. I don’t cry often but I’d be SOBBING at the first seamstress’s place."

Others shared similar horror stories of their own.

One person said: "I had the same thing happen! I didn't get my dress back until the day of, an hour before from the seamstress that ended up fixing it."

Another wrote: "I worked at a bridal store.

"We had a seamstress leave some oil mark on a bridesmaid dress and tried to blame us on it. I spent 2 hours getting it out."

A third added: "I had to get a new dress 5 days before my wedding."
