'My partner ignored my birthday - even though I’m 37 weeks pregnant with his baby'

For lots of us birthdays are a big deal.

Even if you don't go in for parties and presents, a simple 'Happy Birthday' is often welcome as a sign those in your life are thinking about you.

But one woman has shared her upset after her partner appeared to ignore her special day.

Perhaps the relationship is in its early stages and he simply forgot, you might say. But in fact the man in question is her long-term partner, as well as the father of her unborn baby.

Taking to Mumsnet, the woman explained: "Today is my birthday, I am 37 weeks pregnan t tomorrow and have a lovely eight-year-old boy. I am with my the kids dad but our relationship is strained."

She went on to say the pair had been arguing recently over renovation work on their house.

"There have been two big arguments in the past week and I am just blamed for absolutely everything, everything I do is wrong and selfish apparently," she added.

Cut to her birthday, and her partner has said "no happy birthday nothing."

With an eight-year-old as the only other person in the house, this meant her birthday went unnoticed. "My son doesn’t know it’s my birthday bless him so I just got him ready and he went to school as usual," the mum wrote.

To make matters worse, she said the day has been especially tough for her since it is the first she has celebrated since her dad's passing.

The confused mum then asked if she was being unreasonable for wishing her partner had wished her a happy birthday, noting she did not expect a card or gift.

"My partner's birthday was less than a month after my dad passed and I still ensured I arranged a lovely weekend away for the three of us," she added.

Several other mums were quick to wish the woman "Happy Birthday" and offer their take on the situation.

For many commenters, the partner's behaviour was hard to forgive.

Trying to help, one person wrote: "Your partner sounds quite cold and detached. I get that this isn't a snap decision to be made, especially with another baby due very soon but I'd personally be questioning what I was getting out of the relationship."

Recommending action, another said: "Two things to do today, buy a treat or present for yourself, and chuck this useless selfish spiteful bloke out of your life."
