Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it's up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday's paper.
This week's question
My sister and her husband, who have a child, between them earn about £28,000 a year. My wife and I take home £52,000. My parents, in their 70s, often give money to my sister, which really rankles with my wife who says we should be treated equally. Should I demand equality?
