'My neighbours admitted they peer through my bathroom window - I feel violated'

A family say they feel 'violated' after learning their neighbours have been peering through their windows - and looking into their bathroom.

The shocking intrusion came to light after the homeowners decided to install a privacy fence.

As the family's mum explained in a post to Reddit, she went without a fence when she first moved in a year prior because 'they are so expensive'.

But with the help of another neighbour, she and her husband are now looking to place one around their house.

Unfortunately, it sounds like someone was taking advantage of the lack of a fence in the meantime.

The pair were standing in the garden with their friendly neighbour when they heard an unusual comment from next door.

As their helpers 'were putting in posts for a 4 foot fence', a voice came from the other side.

It was the daughter of the family-of-four living next door. "We like to peer into their windows and now they are blocking that", she allegedly said, while pointing toward the bathroom window.

Stunned, the homeowner confronted her but there was no response.

Explaining her shock in her post to 'Neighborsfromhell', the mum wrote: "You can't see into our windows from the street or even from the neighbors house.

"You have to be pretty close, in our yard. We have blinds and curtains, as well as a tint that you can see out of, but you have to be up against the window to see in."

She added: "We only ever open the living room curtains (that faces the street) during the day. Bedroom and bathroom blinds and curtains always stay closed."

As a result, she feels 'violated'. "I have done everything I can for privacy. The house isn't in the best neighborhood.

"When I bought it my husband and I had just started dating a few months prior so I was living here alone for awhile and felt the tiny, blinds and curtains were necessary for my peace of mind," the mum lamented.

"I waited on the fence because they are so expensive.

"We have cameras, an alarm system. We've done everything we can to be safe and yet it wasn't enough."

Keen to offer advice, one commenter said: "You need motion activated spotlights."

"You should have an outdoor cam or doorbell," another wrote. "This is terrifying and unacceptable."

The mum replied: "I do actually. 3 of them. Front, other side that covers my driveway, and back. That side of the house I didn't think I needed to since I really only have a sliver of property and never imagined this would ever be a thing.

"Boy was I ever wrong."
