'My neighbour won't stop blasting the radio at night - my partner has to wear ear plugs'

A woman is fed up of sleeping on the sofa every night due to her neighbour playing her radio loudly- but does not know how to address it with her.

The neighbour is a hard-of-hearing elderly woman and is quite intimidating so the woman does not find her approachable.

However, the woman is frustrated as she finds herself sleeping on the sofa each night as she cannot bear the noise of her radio all night long and cannot wear earplugs as she finds them uncomfortable.

Her partner also cannot stand the racket and has to wear earplugs whenever he sleeps at her house.

In a Mumsnet post, the woman, who remained anonymous, wrote: "I've never slept well and when I moved into my flat five years ago I spent a lot of time and money on making my bedroom a cosy warm place that I would want to spend time in.

"I do love my bedroom but it shares a wall with my next door neighbour's bedroom. She is an older lady who is hard of hearing and she has her radio on at night loudly enough that it keeps me awake to the extent that I now generally sleep on the sofa in the lounge."

The woman is unsure how to address this as the neighbour is a formidable character so is quite intimidating but she feels she has to do something to get her sleeping back.

In response, many have offered their advice to the woman.

One person wrote: "Have you tried talking to her about it/ telling her that it bothers you as a starting point?"

While another stated: "You have to get over your irrational fear and speak to her. Asking someone to turn down a radio which is disturbing your sleep at 1am is a perfectly reasonable thing to do."

A third penned: "She might be intimidating but it doesn't mean she's not a reasonable person."
