'My mum is dating my ex fiancé - I'm devastated but she refuses to stop'

Breaking up with a partner is never easy - no matter how long you've been together. Pals will often abide by the unwritten rule, therefore, that you should never make a move on a friend's ex.

It would be fair to assume that this also applies to family members, but sadly that's not always the case. One woman has been left devastated after discovering her mum is in a relationship with her ex-fiancé as she's been dating him for months behind her back.

One of the woman's close friends took to Mumsnet to share her heartbreak, as she captioned the post: "Would you date your daughter's ex-fiancé?"

She explained: "It's happened to my friend who was engaged they split up two years ago then her mum separated from her husband, bumped into her daughter's ex-fiancé and now they are dating.

"My friend is devastated especially when the mother kept it secret for a couple of months and only admitted it when my friend became suspicious as the mum never went out much and now is never in.

"The mother is adamant that she's going to carry on with it even though she knows how upset my friend is.

"I find it very strange as surely as a mum you wouldn't want to hurt your daughter. I've posted this as there's very little on Google about it."

Seeking advice, she questioned: "What are your thoughts on it, am I wrong to be shocked at the mother or is it more normal than I'm led to believe?"

Since sharing, the woman has raked in over 100 comments to date - with several people admitting their shock about the ordeal.

Taking to the comment section, one person wrote: "Your poor friend. I'd be devastated if my mum did this to me."

Meanwhile, someone else said: "Oh, that's grim."

A third penned: "Hell no. Mother cares more about herself than her child clearly. It's a boundary that shouldn't be crossed."
