'My mum-in-law compared our wedding food to cafeteria dinners - she ruined it'

A future mother-in-law does not want to attend her son's wedding after he stood up to her about her poor behaviour towards his partner at a recent wedding menu tasting.

The bride and groom had gone with the future in-law to the tasting but they were not happy with her critiquing dishes the entire time and comparing them to cafeteria food.

Taking to Reddit, the soon-to-be bride explained that when they told the relative not to behave so badly, she hit the roof and forced the happy couple to leave the restaurant while saying she won't come to the big day.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "My future mother-in-law just ruined our wedding menu tasting with her constant stream of put downs ("this is like cafeteria food") and critiques.

"Finally, after the formal tasting portion of the evening was over and the event coordinator had left us, my fiancé stood up to her and told her she couldn't speak to me poorly. She lost it."

She added that she had tried to establish boundaries with her future in-law's involvement in the planning so was sad things had come to this.

"My wedding tasting was absolutely ruined, I cried the whole way home. My fiancé is horrified and hurt."

In response, many have been sympathetic and offered their own advice with some saying it might be good that the relative is no longer in the planning.

One person wrote: "You no longer have to include her in any wedding planning. She has shown you who she is and has shown you how she will behave."

While another stated: "If she can't be kind then she is out of your lives. You will have such a peaceful time going forward."

A third penned: "Don’t involve her with anything else."
