'My mum always ruins Christmas dinner - I'm not letting her near the kitchen this year'

A woman who was left fuming with her mum for ruining last year's Christmas dinner has insisted on doing everything herself come December 25. The woman explained that her mum always seems to make a massive error in the preparation for Christmas Day, like buying food too far in advance meaning it goes out of date or forgetting bits and pieces, so she was furious it happened again last year.

Taking to the 'Am I Being Unreasonable' forum on Mumsnet, the woman explained that her children were really looking forward to the big day but ended very disappointed. In the post, she said: "After many years of "hilarious" disaster Christmas dinners we stopped going and did our own at home.

"Last year she kept asking us to go there again. I kept saying no and making excuses but she made me feel guilty and I eventually caved."

She went onto say that her daughter had expressed excitement about going round to the grandparents and they had promised her some lovely stuffing, cranberry sauce and pigs in blankets at their dinner.

Just two days before their planned Christmas dinner, the woman phoned her mum to ask if she needed anything bought last minute but the mum assured her that everything was under control.

When she asked her mum if the turkey had been defrosted she insisted she would do it straight away.

The author of the post explained: "Christmas Day arrives, we got there my mum says 'I'm so sorry, you'll never believe what I've done.

"She'd forgotten to take the turkey out of the freezer. I was fuming."

The mum then suggested she had sausages which she could cook for dinner but the woman explained her daughter does not like them and didn't want to eat that on Christmas Day.

The woman stated: "I say 'I've got gammon at home, I’ll drive back and get it. My mum says 'oh, ok … what do you want with it? Mash?'

"I say just whatever you were doing with Christmas dinner! She says 'but it’s all frozen - with us not having turkey I didn't think you'd want the other stuff?"

After all the drama, the family did not have anything with their Christmas dinner last year and so the woman has said she will be doing all the cooking this year.
