Newspapers:
The Guardian, Independent and Sunday Times. I like to spread out everything that comes with it so it looks like I've read it but actually I just read the cartoons. I don't read tabloids. Like most people in Merseyside, I haven't liked the Sun since Hillsborough.
Magazines:
I've just bought a house, so I'm reading Elle Decoration and Homes and Gardens, but when I try to translate something classy, something always seems to get lost in translation.
Books:
Elmore Leonard is fantastic. You can't get his books in St Helens, so I've just spent £70 in London stocking up. I also love Charles Bukowski. He puts me in that mindset of, "Why not hole yourself up somewhere, drink for days and then write something spectacular?" but I always end up drunk and think, "I can't do this, I need some fresh orange juice".
TV:
The Larry Sanders Show is the funniest thing ever and Louis Theroux is a genius. If I find myself watching Hollyoaks, I despise myself for the rest of the evening. I also love Ant & Dec on SM:TV.
Radio:
Terry Wogan is brilliant and possibly the best DJ anywhere. Chris Moyles should be banished - he's the worst example of posse radio.
Film:
Don't get to see a lot because there hasn't been a cinema in St Helens for 10 years, but I love anything by Ken Loach, Mike Leigh and the Coen brothers.
Adverts: Tango turned the corner for ads but I'm not keen on those sketches before programmes, like the ones before Friends. It's like designing the perfect car and then sticking a Garfield toy on the front.
New Media:
I'm still visiting the Lord Of The Rings official website out of pure, seething jealousy. I went for the role of a hobbit, got a final callback and didn't get it. On the home page, I wrote: "Johnny Vegas would have been great in this part. It's a big mistake not to have him in it."
Comedian Johnny Vegas appears in the new BBC 2 series Happiness, which starts on Tuesday.
