My life in shopping: Erin O'Connor, model

What is your earliest shopping memory?

Buying my first pair of branded trainers. My sister and I both got Pony Baseball boots to wear with our shellsuits. I wish I had the pictures!

What do you enjoy shopping for now?

Objects and curiosities. I have two curiosity cabinets at home filled with finds from jumble sales, markets and my travels. My favourite piece is a voodoo mask from just outside Cape Town.

What is your favourite shopping destination?

Paris. I have bought some amazing old books from St-Germain-des-Prés, the book quarter.

Do you still like to buy clothes?

Yes. But because taking off and putting on clothes is part of my job I try on only jackets and coats.

I am the world's laziest shopper, but very rarely have I had to take anything back.

What is your shopping style?

I am selective. If I do splash out, it's an investment, and I wear things for years. It makes me cross when I hear people say, "It's so last season." I always say, "It's vintage."

What is the most expensive thing you have bought?

A couture Versace dress for my 21st birthday. It was floor-length and I couldn't dance in it so I slashed the bottom off.

Who's your favourite shopping companion?

My dad. He will stand anywhere from Chanel to Topshop and just say "that looks great".

What was your last purchase?

A top hat from the London vintage fashion, textiles and accessories fair.
