'My kids will pull a sickie for Glastonbury - tickets are so hard to get, it's worth it'

A mum wants to pull her kids out of school to go to Glastonbury Festival - but is unsure on the best way to do this.

The parents have tickets for the legendary annual music festival and were able to get their kids in for free.

However, while the youngest child should be easier to get out of school as they will have just done their SATS, the older one could be more of a challenge.

They are even considering telling them to pull a sickie to get them out of lessons but are not sure if this is the best way.

Taking to Mumsnet, the mum, who remained anonymous, explained: "My mum was going to look after the kids but now can’t come down. I am not so concerned about the year six child as they will have done SATS & the head won't mind.

"The older child more tricky as secondary won’t give any days off and certainly not for a festival. But it's the last year we can get them in for free! Older child doing well in school so am not so worried about them missing school for a few days."

In a bid to avoid the fine for taking the kids out of school, the mum is considering getting them to pull a sickie for the experience.

"It's more how to do it? Formally & it's likely I will get fined! I feel really bad pulling a sickie but I feel like it's a great experience for them & one that they will remember," she wrote.

"There's great kids stuff on site, family camping & so good all round really. And post Covid, feels like an enriching thing to do.

"Irresponsible parents or life experience?! I really don't want to have to give up my tickets with six weeks to go!"

In response, many have supported the mum and said she should take them out of school for the festival.

One person wrote: "You won't get fined if it's less than five days. I would just tell them and let them put it down as unauthorised absence - don't make your kids lie in school."

While another stated: "I'd definitely do it and I used to be a teacher."
