'My in-laws defied our one household rule - so I called the police on them'

A woman called the police on her in-laws when they would not leave the house, despite breaking the husband and wife's strict visitation rule they have had since marriage. The woman took to Reddit to explain that her and her husband have a very strict rule that if you do not seek permission from them to come round, you will not be allowed in if you drop by.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, said: "My husband and I have a very strict rule of if you don't call, or text us before you come over you're made to leave.

"This has been a fact since we got married and had kids. This applies to both sides of the family."

So when the woman heard a knock at her door in recent days, she was most surprised to find her in-laws standing there, despite not having asked permission.

She explained in the post: "My husband isn't home at this point so I quickly call him to see if they'd talked to him about coming over.

"They didn't call or next me either. I answer the door and ask them what they needed."

The in-laws were trying to visit the woman's daughter who was not home at that point so the author of the post said they should go.

"I reminded them of our rule and tell them they need to leave," stated the woman.

"My father-in-law gets huffy saying they drove over an hour to see our daughter and they should be allowed in."

But there was no getting past the angry mum who told them to leave and explained they really needed to check first before dropping by.

She continued: "At this point my husband comes home and my in laws are under the impression my husband will let them in. He doesn't.

"He tells them to leave and at this point they're trespassing. My husband reminds them of our rule and tells them to leave. They refuse. My husband then tells them he has no choice but to call the police and have them removed from the property."

In response, many have been quick to support the author and her husband and suggest that this is a well-known rule that the in-laws should not have broken.

One person wrote: "Who drives an hour without checking the person they want to visit is in, knowing a family rule."

While another said: "They drove an hour to see a child who wasn’t even there. Had they called they would have known."
