My husband wants to spend £1,500-plus on a ‘detox holiday’

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it’s up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday’s paper.

This week’s question:

My mildly overweight partner wants to spend more than £1,500 on a “raw juice detox” holiday that promises sparkling results. I say £40 on a juicer and a trip to Lidl would do the trick. But he says without the bootcamp atmosphere (and investing so much in it) he won’t stick to the programme. Help me prove to him he doesn’t need to do this, by sharing how you’ve lost weight fast without spending a fortune.
