'My husband tried to do the food shopping by himself - he failed miserably'

Most households and families will have one adult that takes care of the food shopping more often than the other.

And because they tackle it every week, they're a pro at finding everything their family needs in no time at all - without getting lost down the pet food aisle when they don't have any pets.

But what happens when they can't make it to the shops and have to rely on their other half to pick up the slack?

Well, it's usually a disaster, as one woman on Reddit has discovered after her husband tried braving the supermarket on his own and immediately found himself way out of his depth.

Posting anonymously, the woman revealed her husband had ventured out to the shops to pick up some essentials by himself, but failed miserably in his quest to be more independent as he had to call his wife every few minutes for advice on what products he needed to buy.

The woman shared a picture of her call log showing four incoming calls lasting no more than 17 seconds, with each call spaced less than five minutes apart.

She captioned the image: "My husband went to pick up a few groceries alone. I got a call from him for advice every few minutes."

The post proved relatable as commenters shared their own shopping stories (SUSHI17/REDDIT)

The picture proved relatable for many people in the comments of the Reddit post, as there were hundreds of messages from people who have found themselves in similar situations when it comes to braving the food shop.

One person wrote: "I do most of the grocery shopping for the house, but my wife makes the list. I have definitely had to call multiple times. I've now gotten into the habit of making one call at the end for all the items I'm confused about, whether the instructions are unclear, they're sold out, etc."

While another said: "Yeah, us married people do that when usually one is the designated grocery shopper and we’re sent instead!"

"This is me, only I’m the wife. My husband does the shopping, so I’m lost in a grocery store with questions about heavy whipping cream versus regular whipping cream", a third commented.

And while some poked fun at the husband's inability to complete the food shopping without his wife's help, others thought it was "sweet" that he was dedicated to communicating and getting things right.

Someone said: "Better than being with somebody who doesn't communicate, I think it's sweet."

As someone else added: "Hey give him some credit. Apparently, this is not something he is good at, but he is at least trying."
