'My husband says I should buy him two beers each round as my wine is more expensive'

Getting a round in may seem like a good idea at the time, but what happens when one person is ordering drinks that are more expensive than yours?

One woman revealed that her husband, who drinks beer, believes that she should buy him two pints on her round as the wine she drinks is more expensive.

Posting anonymously on Mumsnet, the woman asked users whether her husband was being “ridiculous” or whether she should be ordering a different drink when it’s not her round.

She explained: “My husband gets the hump with me when we go to the pub as I order my favourite wine and it can cost between £6-8 for a large glass depending on where we are. His pint is usually £3-5.

He joked that she should buy him an extra beer on her round (Getty Images)

"He is a tight a*** and I'm trying to come to terms with it, but I wonder if I should order a small glass or a cheaper drink when he's paying and order what I want when I pay.

"He (half jokingly, I hope) said that I should buy him two pints when it's my round to make up for it. I told him that was ridiculous, but is it?"

She concluded her post by asking users whether she should just order a smaller or cheaper drink when it’s not her round or whether she should order whatever she wants.

The majority of Mumsnet concluded that her husband was “pathetic” for moaning about paying the extra couple of pounds for her drink and that she should buy her own bottle of wine next time and tell him to get his own drinks.

One person said: "It's called a round for a reason. I would make a point of ordering and pay separately.”

Another wrote: "Being tight is so unattractive."

A third commented: "He's quibbling over about £3-4 per round, and would prefer you to have a drink you don't want. I could not stand this level of meanness.

“Next time, order a bottle and tell him to buy his own. Does he split a packet of ready salted one crisp at a time too?”
