'My husband said I should sit in economy while he flies in first-class, I'm fuming'

A man had to give up his first class plane ticket to his wife after suggesting she fly in economy instead. The husband had been chosen by his work to attend a conference in Miami and he asked his wife to come along but when buying the plane ticket for her, she was far from happy with his suggestion.

The woman knew that it was a big honour for him to attend the conference and realised he had been sent because of his hard work but was irritated by his suggestion that she should fly in a separate class to him.

Taking to Reddit, the wife added that the disagreement turned into an argument where the husband begrudgingly gave up his first class seat for her.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "They chose just him and a few of his co-workers out of a tonne of candidates so it was quite the honour.

"The company told them that they were allowed to bring their spouses/partners but that they wouldn't be springing for plane tickets for us, so if they wanted to bring us they'd have to buy tickets out of their own pockets."

She added that when it came to booking the tickets, he said they could not afford for both of them to fly in first class so asked if she could fly in economy while he would take the first class ticket work had got for him on the way there then economy on the way back.

"This really, really bothered me. I understood that a first class ticket for me would strain our budget a bit but what kind of a man lives it up in first class while his wife sits in coach," she explained.

"I asked him just that and he responded 'Come on. I'm taking you along on my work trip. I earned my first class seat by working hard. It's my reward.'

"But I insisted that if we truly couldn't afford a first class seat for me (we could have; it would have hurt a little but we could have) that he as a gentleman should give up his seat for me. We argued but he ultimately agreed to give me his seat."

Since the argument he has not been happy with her and still feels he worked hard enough to earn that seat.

In response, many supported the man and said his wife was acting unreasonably.

One person wrote: "His company bought the first class ticket for him. What kind of wife insists her husband give up the ticket his company paid for on his behalf so she could live it up a little."

While another stated: "Totally selfish. I can’t believe she would make him give up his seat. Honey you are completely wrong here."
