'My husband laughed at my baby name suggestion - I don't understand it'

Picking a name for your child can be incredibly tough, as you and your partner may struggle to agree on a moniker you both like. Favourite names will be shot down and new options will become top contenders for your little one seemingly out of the blue.

One mum-to-be has turned to the internet for some much-needed advice on her current list of baby name ideas after her husband 'hated' all of the ones she picked out - and even 'laughed out loud' at one suggestion. The parent, who already has one daughter, explained that she doesn't understand her partner's baby name 'style' and is in need of help to come up with the perfect choice.

In her post on Reddit's Name Nerds forum, the unnamed woman said: "Need help naming a second girl! My husband hates everything I suggest.

"We have a second girl due in February and my husband has shot down every single name I've suggested. Our first is Violet Ann. I love names that are classic and it's a bonus if it has a nature element. I'd like the name to be somewhat common, not too obscure, top 100-1000 is fine. I'd rather stay away from the top 10 though I think."

She then posted a list of names she liked, including Maisie, which had made her husband "laugh out loud" for some reason.

Other monikers included Hazel, June, Maxine, Chloe, Claire and Iris.

Meanwhile, her husband had suggested Alexandria and Zoe.

She added: "I don't understand his style at all and he's giving me precious little to work with. We have no clue on middle names either, but considering Ruth as an honour middle name, but we're both not super fond of it. I know we sound like impossible people, but I'd love to hear suggestions that go with my taste or if anyone has insight on his taste, because I am lost on that."

Dozens of people responded to the woman's plea, proclaiming the husband needed to come up with more of his own ideas if he's going to keep saying no to all of hers, while others suggested a solution that might come in handy for other parents-to-be.

"Husband needs to go through a baby name book (or this forum) and give you more than two names he’s willing to agree to. That’s my two cents lol," replied one person.

Another wrote: "He really needs to make more suggestions if he's going to shoot down all of yours."

Someone else posted: "There is an app named Kinder that is a baby name app that you can both download and both swipe on baby names you like (similar to Tinder). Once you’ve gone through the names it will show you all the names you both like. It might be helpful for you guys to find more names that you both like if your husband doesn’t want to more proactive in choosing names. If you don’t like Kinder there are plenty of other apps with a similar concept."
