'My husband is named after a vegetable – we need a unique baby name to match'

When you're starting a family, choosing a name for a baby is a big deal. It has to be something you both agree on, as well as something that suits the rest of your family.

One couple are still deciding on a name for their baby – but have decided it needs to be something 'unique' like the baby's dad.

The husband's name is Kale, like the cruciferous vegetable, and the wife wants their future child to have 'unique' name to match.

Taking to Reddit, the anonymous woman explained: "My husband's name is Kale and we have been talking about names for our future children."

She continued: "We are having a hard time deciding name's because my husband wants our children's names to have unique/uncommon names.

"His name is spelt the same way as the vegetable Kale, but overall it sticks and it isn't actually that bad of a name."

The woman asked fellow forum users for recommendations that would "match" her husband's name – but asked them to avoid any other vegetable names, such as carrot. She added: "We have heard it all".

Many people started leaving suggestions of more uncommon names they could use, including Basil, Sage, Margherita, Rye, Chance, Fox, Quill and Cedar.

One person commented: "Some ideas of food related names: Maple, Olive, Apple, Poppy, Brie, Coco, Cherry, Pepper and Chip."

Other suggestions included Kahlo, Zealand, Kestrel, Brune, Taz, Mavis, Mello, Zephyr, Kayridge and Swade.

Meanwhile, some people urged the woman to be a bit cautious when it comes to picking a name that it "too unique".

One person shared: "As someone with a really unique name id like to suggest that you are careful going too unique. You don't want your kids name to be too easy to Google."

However, another added: "I have a one-of-a-kind kinda name (hippie parents) and I love it, but I only use part of my surname for the client facing part of my work. I feel like that's generally enough even with an unusual first name."
