'My husband didn't buy me a Valentine's Day gift - some chocolates aren't difficult'

Valentine's Day is like Marmite - you either love it or you hate it. In some circumstances, loved-up couples may go all out to enjoy the day celebrating their romance, with gifts, flowers, and a swanky dinner.

On the other hand, however, singletons and other couples may believe that the most romantic day of the year is just a big waste of money, while some would still appreciate a small token of affection. Taking to popular parenting forum Mumsnet, a woman has vented about her husband not buying her anything for the special day despite not asking for any gifts.

She claims she insisted that her husband shouldn't buy her flowers as they're an 'expensive rip-off', but he misinterpreted what she said and has now left her empty-handed.

The woman explained: "I said don't buy me flowers for Valentine's Day as they're an expensive rip-off. He took this to mean 'don't buy anything'."

The woman went on: "I'm really not fussed, been together years but I do think it's odd. A bottle of wine or some choc hearts, cheap perfume.

"It's not difficult. He's very black and white, more so as he's got older," she added.

Since sharing her post, the woman has raked in over 50 comments to date.

Flocking to the comment section, people assured the woman that she was worrying over something that they believed was 'not a big deal'.

One person wrote: "Sounds like he just misunderstood. Not a big deal really."

"Such a non-issue..." A second agreed. At the time of posting, a third person questioned: "It's 07:30 am, a bit early to write him off, isn't it?"

The original poster clarified: "I gave him a bottle of wine and he says, 'oh, I thought we weren’t doing presents this year'.

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Do you really have to measure your relationship on gifts? What is your husband like day to day? Is he kind, supportive, and a decent person?

"Surely that's better than a token gift? Just enjoy the bottle of wine together," they added.
