'My husband chucked water on my wedding guest dress - he thinks it's too revealing'

Weddings are a great excuse to buy a new outfit and get dressed up, and whatever you choose to wear as a guest to someone else's big day, you shouldn't be criticised for it as long as you feel comfortable in it - and as long as it isn't white, of course!

But one woman was left outraged by her husband's reaction to the dress she bought to wear to her brother's wedding - as he told her it was "too revealing". The woman explained she had picked out a knee-length dress with straps on the shoulders, but her husband said he didn't want her to wear it as he didn't think it was appropriate.

She refused his demand for her to wear something else, and on the day of the wedding, she claimed her husband waited until she was wearing the dress - and had her hair and make-up done - before he chucked a cup of water over her, forcing her to get changed.

In a post on Reddit, the woman said: "My husband and I were invited to my brother's wedding. I had a knee-length dress with straps on the shoulders and back to wear to the wedding.

"My husband didn't want me to wear it and said he thought it was 'too revealing'. I told him to relax and take it easy since the wedding was small and no strangers would be there. Besides I thought the dress was fine not too revealing like he said. He kept arguing with me about it and told me to wear something else but I refused.

"He waited until I was wearing it then splashed water all over it. I was in shock! The water was too cold and it covered my whole body, not just the dress. It also got on my face and hair! I froze there in shock and began to cry really loud."

The woman said they were both ready to go to the wedding at the time, so she had no choice but to get changed since she didn't have time to wait for the water to dry.

She also said her husband claimed his actions helped her "keep her dignity", but she still can't bring herself to speak to him.

She added: "He was already in his suit ready to go to the wedding. He told me he'd be waiting for me in the car while I change but I screamed at him to f**k off and get out. He didn't even apologise! Just kept ranting about how I ignored his feelings towards the dress and disrespected his opinion on it.

"I still feel upset and devasted by the whole thing. We're not speaking to each other, and he thinks he did me 'a favour' and kept my 'dignity'. I'm struggling to let this go and I get suffocated whenever I recall the event."

Commenters on the post were horrified at the man's actions, as many of them said his behaviour was a "red flag" and encouraged the woman to rethink her relationship.

One person said: "He is trampling your boundaries and opinion. Throwing cold water on you is his way of forcing you to go along with his way of thinking. I hope you refused to go to the wedding and can get him the help he needs to see what he did was abhorrent."

While another added: "It's your body and you're allowed to wear whatever you want. He’' pushed your boundaries by literally taking your choice away. You're allowed to hear what he said and consider it, but he shouldn't have done what he did. That's not right and he's a s**t husband."

And a third wrote: "I would have gone to the wedding soaking wet and when everyone asked what happened, I would have told them the truth, very loudly."
