'My house and car are covered in bird poo as neighbour won't stop feeding pigeons'

A furious resident claims her house is constantly covered in bird poo thanks to her neighbour's annoying hobby.

She says a woman living nearby leaves 'large quantities' of bread in her front garden every morning, despite being asked not to.

As a result, the homeowner has to put up with pigeons and gulls 'squawking' daily - and clean the mess they leave behind.

To add insult to injury, the resident is also woken up by the birds, as her neighbour routinely chucks the bread outside at 7am.

"As the mornings are getting lighter now, the pigeons and gulls start arriving on my roof from around 6.30am and run up and down and squawking until they get fed," she explained in a post to Mumsnet.

"I sleep right underneath and get woken daily by them thudding about above my head."

What's more, the woman's not sure why the neighbour keeps up her hobby. "She doesn't even get any pleasure from watching the birds. I've seen her throwing the bread as she leaves the house to take the dog for a walk. She doesn't see them fighting over the bread, then shitting all over my stuff. I've constantly got bird poo splattered over my car, my drive and my windows," the woman wrote.

Unfortunately, the sleepless resident cannot get her neighbour to stop either. "I've asked her several times not to do it and also said bread isn't good for birds so she's actually not being helpful. I've also asked her to feed them later in the day as a compromise. She refuses to listen though and keeps doing it early morning."

She added that she has contacted her local council but was told to resolve the civil matter herself. But after the problem once again reared its ugly head, the resident took to Mumsnet for advice.

"I'm particularly grumpy this morning as I've had a tough week at work and I'm under the weather with a heavy cold. I was looking forward to a lie in this morning but I was woken up early by the sodding birds," her post explained. "[Am I being unreasonable] to think she should stop feeding birds?"

In response, commenters were quick to side with the post's author and agree they would find similar behaviour annoying.

"No advice, just sympathy. Our neighbour feeds foxes," read one reply. Someone else put: "It's so annoying that she is continuing to do this early, even when you've asked her to stop." And another commenter revealed: "We had a similar issue with a random man choosing to feed the local wildlife on what was actually someone's property- they got rats as well as the pigeons."
