My government is not weak, says Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai

HUBBALLI: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday insisted that his government is “not weak” and that it has deftly and effectively handled controversial situations and issues.

Speaking to reporters at the Hubballi airport on Sunday, Bommai said issues like wearing hijabs in classrooms, sale of halal meat, and azaan being broadcast over loudspeakers were resolved peacefully, harmoniously and within the framework of the law.

He said: “Action has been taken in accordance with Supreme Court and high court orders and guidelines. These issues have been tackled efficiently. Providing efficient and pro-people governance is more important. ”

Bommai said he and his party are now focusing on a string of forthcoming elections, including to the Rajya Sabha and legislative council. “We had the state BJP core committee meet yesterday and I will contact the party brass over the phone tomorrow or the day after for more discussions. The process of expanding the cabinet will happen according to their instructions. ”

On making BY Vijayendra, former chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s son, a member of the legislative council and inducting him into the council of ministers, Bommai said, “That’s up to the party’s leadership in Delhi. ”

Earlier on Sunday, former minister KS Eshwarappa and cooperation minister ST Somashekar confirmed that the state unit has recommended Vijayendra’s name for an MLC seat.

READING HANUMAN CHALISA PROVIDES HAPPINESS, SAYS CM

Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said the government has reserved Rs 100 crore for the development of Anjanadri Hills in Koppal district, believed by some to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. At a programme at Dharavati Anjaneya temple in Gokul on Sunday, Bommai said reading the Hanuman Chalisa “provides happiness and Lord Hanuman will fulfil wishes of devotees”.

Bommai was accompanied by Union minister Pralhad Joshi, who said Hanuman is “chiranjeevi” (immortal). “There are more temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman than Lord Ram in India,” Joshi said. “Hanuman was an inspiration even for Lord Ram.”

He said spiritual awareness is “increasing” in India ever since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.
